RoChair

ROTA Mobility, a California based company, designed an alternative way of using the wheelchair.

In their RoChair model, instead of pushing the rims like on a standard wheelchair, the disabled person will use a front mounted lever to propel itself forward. Utilizing rowing motions, the driver will feel less strain on his hands, shoulders and wrists. Steering is done by turning the lever left and right.

The RoChair has 8 gears, disc brakes and under-the-chair wheels for easier transferring of the driver. The device is priced at $4,980.

  1. This must be a big help for the people who use a wheelchair. When they use rowing motions, they don't move the arms a lot that may hurt their body. however, this new wheelchair will help them to exercise.

  2. What a fantastic invention. It makes you wonder why it has not been done before. I've got a friend who would benefit greatly from having one of these. Hopefully they will catch on quickly and the demand will go up enough to lower the price on them. People living on social security disability need the price to come down. I can also see other people using these just to get around easier.
